Scott Mearns
KYCC Program Director

Scott grew up in Arcata, California, the middle child of three. His father was a music professor and his mom a homemaker.
He became interested in radio while working at his high school station in the mid 1970's. Part of his early radio career was spent in Top 40 commercial radio. In 1986 he moved to Stockton to work at what was then KCJH, and worked for the station until 1989.
He returned to work full time at KYCC in 2005. In those intervening years, he was chief engineer at KUOP (the University of the Pacific's NPR station) for ten years, and worked for Nextel Communications in Walnut Creek for five years.
Scott is currently KYCC's Program Director and Chief Engineer, keeping everything running smoothly and sounding good on the air. He also hosts the music middays from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Additionally, he serves as a member of the KYCC Board of Directors, a position he has held since 2001.
In 1987, he married Bonnie, who was a student at Christian Life College in Stockton. They have made their home in Stockton ever since, and have three children: two attend college locally, and one is in high school.
Scott loves any activity that involves spending time with his family, including walking, talking and cooking. He claims his hotcakes are the best, and in his retired life plans to give Eggo Waffles a run for their money. He also enjoys cycling, hiking and camping, and in his much-earlier years liked climbing radio towers and mountains.
His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 37:3-4, "Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." Scott says, "Years ago a good Christian friend showed me those verses as a personal promise from God, and God has proven them true."
