Duane grew up in the small agricultural community of Watsonville, California. As a teenager he attained Eagle Scout, played soprano clarinet in his high school Marching and Concert Band, and qualified with the Bass Clarinet with both the California All-State Honor Band and “America's Youth in Concert,” a national honor band that toured Europe.
He earned a BS degree in Business Administration - Accounting from San Jose State and now works as a managing accountant for a state agency.
Duane has lived in Stockton since 1983, is widowed after being married for 27 years. He has two girls in college, who both sing in their church choir.
He has been a volunteer at KYCC since June 1986, hosting the Saturday afternoon Weekend Celebration. Additionally, he assists with other production and hosting duties, including the annual New Year's Eve Family Celebration countdown show. If asked why he has been a faithful volunteer at KYCC for three decades he would say, “KYCC is a Ministry and I am honored that the Lord has called me to service, it also helps that I find something fun to do in every show each week.”
Duane has also been involved with the Stockton Civic Theater since 2001, playing musical or dramatic roles in several different shows. He has also directed small dramatic productions for his church and is an occasional soloist with his church choir and works as a cameraman and broadcast sound mixer with his church's television crew.
If asked to name his favorite artist, Duane would be hard pressed to give you an answer. “It would be hard to choose,” he says. “It has always been the groups with thick, rich harmony such as Go Fish, Glad, Selah, First Call, GB5, the Katinas, and the Gaither Vocal Band.”
His favorite movie is White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. He is also an admitted Trekkie, his favorite Star Trek shows being The Next Generation and Voyager.
Duane’s favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Duane says, "I know that whatever God has called me to do, He would not have called me to do it unless He provided the way for me to get it done.”
